Diabetes: Eating Healthy, Eating Well!

Diabetes: Eating Healthy, Eating Well!

There are two types of diabetes, and they really are two quite different diseases. In type 1, or insulin-dependent diabetes, insulin injections are needed. But in type 2, or non-insulin-dependent diabetes, most people can keep their condition under control with just diet and medication. This type of diabetes is actually much more common than the insulin-dependent type.

How do I find out which type of diabetes I have?

Your doctor will tell you what type of diabetes you have and what you need to do. You can also ask your doctor to refer you to a Diabetes Education program. There, trained health professionals can teach you about diabetes and insulin.

What Is Insulin?

Insulin is classified according to how long it works in the body. There are five different types of insulin, ranging from short to long acting. Some insulins are clear in appearance, while others are cloudy.

The five types of insulin include:

Rapid onset-fast acting insulin

  1. Short-acting insulin
  2. Intermediate-acting insulin
  3. Mixed insulin
  4. Long-acting insulin.

Diabetes And Healthy Eating

Healthy eating, combined with regular physical activity and weight control, is essential to manage diabetes.

People with diabetes should eat mainly high fiber carbohydrate foods such as wholegrain bread and cereals and vegetables and fruit. They should also reduce their intake of fat, especially saturated fat. Limiting the serving size of your meals is often required to maintain healthy body weight. It’s also a good idea to see a dietitian who can help develop a healthy eating plan.

Healthy eating helps a person with diabetes to:

Maintain general good health

  1. Control blood glucose levels
  2. Achieve normal blood lipid (fat) levels
  3. Maintain a healthy blood pressure
  4. Maintain a healthy body weight
  5. Prevent the complications of diabetes.

No Special Diets Required

Healthy eating for people with diabetes is no different than for everyone else. People with diabetes do not need to prepare separate meals or buy special foods, so relax and enjoy healthy eating with the rest of your family.

Finding hope in Uncertian Times

There is a lot of uncertainty in life, whether in our personal affairs or our changing and unstable political climate. The strategies that most of us rely on to contend with such uncertainty tend to be self-defeating.

Finding hope in uncertain times is easier than you think; it’s within you. When we face an uncertain future, we often resort to feeling anxious, worrying, complaining, or being cynical about events that may never occur.

But some people rise to meet uncertain times with hope and resilience. We need to develop such attitudes if we want to be successful in the face of life’s ups and downs.

What does having hope mean? Think of how you handle stressful situations. Do you offer platitudes like, “I hope everything will work out”?

Unfortunately, this is just a way of disengaging or checking out of a difficult situation. Real hope comes from a source much deeper, your core. At your heart, there are essential qualities that help to determine how much confidence you feel, as well as what you can offer to others. Hope is a critical component for facing any uncertainty, from layoffs, to promotions, to moving, and to the current state of the world.

Hope’s Primary Qualities

• Strength – You draw from inner strength to tap into your personal powers.
• Resilience – You bounce back when faced with setbacks and obstacles.
• Optimism – You stay positive despite the challenges ahead of you.

The above qualities are the antithesis of pessimism, complaining, and worry. Rather than be self-defeatist, you can be strong, resilient, and optimistic, and in this way improve your self-esteem.

Hope is essential for handling a crisis, but it can also serve as your core value daily. Uncertainty can arrive at any time, whether it appears in a personal issue, a business issue, a national event, or a global event. The situation doesn’t even necessarily need to be negative. It could be the uncertainty and excitement of starting your own business.
Now, let’s take a closer look at the qualities that are mentioned above.

Strength

Most of us are all too willing to give away our power. Yet, what could be a more hopeless situation than being without power? Being without power can happen in both business and personal relationships. You can find yourself going along with something you disagree with simply because you don’t have the strength or power to speak up.

Retaining power means that you can stand up for yourself, that you can overcome resistance, that you can turn a catastrophe into an opportunity. Real strength is in the core of your being. It’s a quiet calm that isn’t disturbed by events or the turmoil of emotions.
Inner strength established self-power that will anchor, uplift, and encourage you.

Resilience

We often see the elderly celebrated in the media for reaching 100. They are always happy to share the secret to their long life. They all have different secrets, from a cigarette and a glass of whiskey every day to 3 glasses of red wine a week.

The truth is that they didn’t win the gene pool lottery, nor were they immune to the woes of life. They were resilient. They faced hard times and bounced back, shook defeat off at every turn. Being resilient is the real secret to avoiding victimhood.

It isn’t about positive thinking. When faced with sadness, it’s healthy to deal with the sorrow; when we lose a loved one, grief is natural.
Resilience and overcoming adversity comes from a strong sense of self.

Optimism

Society has taught us that life is difficult, that struggling is the norm. Society wants us to believe that the safest place for us is behind a wall. In this environment, optimism seems foolish and unrealistic. When we meet genuinely optimistic people, we are jealous of their cheerfulness. Attitudes of pessimism, skepticism, and cynicism come from fear and distrust. Life can take care of itself; that’s the attitude of optimism.

Skip The Energy And Caffeine Drinks: 8 Natural Remedies For Fatigue

Have you been feeling exhausted or lethargic lately?

If so, you are probably experiencing fatigue. When you are fatigued, you are both physically and mentally drained. Daily tasks that were once so easy to perform can now feel like you are trying to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

There are many different reasons why fatigue may occur. Some of them include depression, lack of sleep, illness, overstimulation, and mental stress. No matter what the idea, here are a few natural remedies that can give you the energy boost you need without the crash later.

#1 – Eat a Good Breakfast

When you wake up in the morning, one of the first things you should do is eat breakfast. As you have heard so many times before, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. When you eat breakfast, your energy levels get a boost. It is this boost that can help you perform your daily tasks more efficiently.

When you skip breakfast, you put yourself at risk for a variety of different health problems. Even if it’s something quick, make breakfast a part of your everyday routine. Try to keep your meal around 300 calories.

#2 – Eat More Broccoli

Broccoli is a superfood that can help prevent stress and fatigue. It contains dietary fiber that can help reduce the amount of adrenal damage caused by stress and fatigue. The result is a better-controlled blood sugar level and less glucose being metabolized in the body.

Broccoli is also able to help eliminate the fat that is often found in the midriff area. Fat in the midriff area causes the hormone cortisol to increase in your body. When this happens, you gain weight. By eating broccoli, you will be able to reduce insulin resistance and improve the metabolism of blood sugar.

#3 – Get Plenty of Rest

Never underestimate the power of sleep. In order for your body and mind to function the right way, you need to get a minimum of 7 hours of sleep every single night. Having a proper sleeping pattern is a crucial step in preventing fatigue. When you get plenty of rest, you will feel rejuvenated and ready for the day. When you don’t get enough rest, you will feel very sluggish and unable to focus.

#4 – Have a Little Lemon Balm

This perennial herb is used to treat a variety of different ailments. The chemicals it contains have a very calming effect. When you are calm, your level of mental fatigue is significantly lowered. For best results mix lip balm with nettle, raspberry leaf, oat tops, ginger, and licorice. Consume this fatigue fighting mixture at least three times a day and you may be able to eliminate fatigue completely.

#5 – Take a Nice, Warm Salt Bath

Salt baths are great for helping you release your fatigue. Just take a little salt and add it to a tub of lukewarm water. Sit in the salt water for about 10 minutes. Allow your body to relax as the salt massages your pores. Never let your face or hair get in the salt water. Tie your hair up and submerge yourself in the water from the neck down.

# 6 – Drink a Glass of Wine

All the wine lovers out there will love this remedy. When it comes to getting rid of fatigue all you may need is a glass of wine.

Take 1 liter of your favorite red wine and mix it with the following ingredients:

  • 25gm of sage
  • 25gm of rosemary
  • 2 tsp. of honey

Find a glass container and mix in the wine, rosemary, and sage.

Put the glass container in a pot of boiling water for 20 minutes.

Remove the container, strain the liquid, and add in the honey.

Let it cool off a bit and enjoy. It is the perfect way to end a long day.

#7 – Consume Rose Petals

Rose petals are known for their ability to help combat depression and tension. Generally speaking, both are a direct result of mental fatigue. Get 20 to 30 rose petals and mix them in a glass of water. Boil the mixture for about 15 minutes. Once it has cooled down, you will need to store it in an airtight container. Have a glass up to 3 times a day and watch the fatigue go away.

#8 – Add Spinach To Your Diet

If you have chronic fatigue, consuming spinach is one of the best remedies. Spinach is a very nutrient-rich food. The folate it contains helps fight chronic fatigue. Spinach also provides your body with other nutrients that give it energy and ward off fatigue.

For best results, consider having spinach at least once a day. You can eat it or drink it in a smoothie or juice. Look for recipe ideas you can avoid burn out.

“A Better You” A 7 day program to self-improvement

“A Better You” A 7 day program to self-improvement

Is your self-esteem, on the rocky side? Here are some helpful hints to improve, the better you in seven days.

I seem to lost count on how many times I’ve read and heard of celebrity marriages failing almost left and right. Not that I care (and personally I don’t), it seems strange that we often see movie and TV stars as flawless people, living the fairytale life of riches and glamour. I suppose we all have to stop sticking our heads in the clouds and face reality.

There are many ways to lose your sense of self-esteem regardless of how trivial it could get. But whatever happens, we should all try not to lose our own sense of self.

So what does it take to be a cut above the rest? Here are some of the things you can think about and improve on that should be enough for a week.

Know your purpose

  1. Are you wandering through life with little direction – hoping that you’ll find happiness, health, and prosperity? Identify your life purpose or mission statement and you will have your own unique compass that will lead you to your truth north every time. This may seem tricky at first when you see yourself to be in a tight or even dead end. But there’s always that little loophole to turn things around and you can make a big difference to yourself.
  2. Know your values
What do you value most? Make a list of your top 5 values. Some examples are security, freedom, family, spiritual development, learning. As you set your goals for 2018 – check your goals against your values. If the goal doesn’t align with any of your top five values – you may want to reconsider it or revise it. The number shouldn’t discourage you, instead, it should motivate you to do more than you can ever dream of.
  3. Know your needs
Unmet needs can keep you from living authentically. Take care of yourself. Do you have a need to be acknowledged, to be right, to be in control, to be loved? There are so many people who lived their lives without realizing their dreams and most of them end up being stressed or even depressed for that matter. List your top four needs and get them met before it’s too late!
  4. Know your passions
You know who you are and what you truly enjoy in life. Obstacles like doubt and lack of enthusiasm will only hinder you, but will not derail your chance to become the person you ought to be. Express yourself and honor the people who have inspired you to become the very person you wanted to be.
  5. Live from the inside out
Increase your awareness of your inner wisdom by regularly reflecting in silence. Commune with nature. Breathe deeply to quiet your distracted mind. For most of us city slickers, it’s hard to even find the peace and quiet we want even in our own home. In my case, I often just sit in a dimly lit room and play some classical music. There’s sound, yes, but music does soothe the savage beast.
  6. Honor your strengths
What are your positive traits? What special talents do you have? List three – if you get stuck, ask those closest to you to help identify these. Are you imaginative, witty, good with your hands? Find ways to express your authentic self through your strengths. You can increase your self-confidence when you can share what you know to others.
  7. Serve others
When you live authentically, you may find that you develop an interconnected sense of being. When you are true to who you are, living your purpose and giving of your talents to the world around you, you give back in service what you came to share with others -your spirit – your essence. The rewards for sharing your gift with those close to you is indeed rewarding, much more if it were to be the eyes of a stranger who can appreciate what you have done to them.

Self-improvement is indeed one type of work that is worth it. It shouldn’t always be within the confines of an office building, or maybe in the four corners of your own room. The difference lies within ourselves and how much we want to change for the better.

Food Safty At Home

Food Safty At Home

  •
  • 4 Basic Steps for Food Safety

Each year millions of people get sick from food illnesses which can cause you to feel like you have the flu. Food illnesses can also cause serious health problems, even death. Follow these four steps to help keep you and your family safe.

    1. Clean

Always wash your food, hands, counters and cooking tools.

    • Wash hands in warm soapy water for at least 20 seconds. Do this before and after touching food.

    • Wash your cutting boards, dishes, forks, spoons, knives and counter tops with hot soapy water. Do this after working with each food item.

    • Rinse fruits and veggies.

    • Clean the lids on canned goods before opening.

    2. Separate (Keep Apart)

Keep raw foods to themselves. Germs can spread from one food to another.

    • Keep raw meat, poultry, seafood, and eggs away from other foods.

    • Do this in your shopping cart, bags, and fridge.

    • Do not reuse marinades used on raw foods unless you bring them to a boil first.

    • Use a special cutting board or plate for raw foods only.

    3. Cook

Foods need to get hot and stay hot. Heat kills germs.

    • Cook to safe temperatures:

      • Beef, Pork, Lamb 145 °F

      • Fish 145 °F

      • Ground Beef, Pork, Lamb 160 °F

      • Turkey, Chicken, Duck 165 °F

    • Use a food thermometer to make sure that food is done. You can’t always tell by looking.

    4. Chill

Put food in the fridge right away.

    • 2-Hour Rule: Put foods in the refrigerator or freezer within 2 hours after cooking or buying from the store. Do this within 1 hour if it is 90 degrees or hotter outside.

    • Never thaw food by merely taking it out of the fridge.

    • Thaw food:

      • In the fridge

      • Under cold water

      • In the microwave

    • Marinate foods in the refrigerator.

Think you have a food illness?

Call your doctor and get medical care right away if you think you have a food illness. Save the food package, can or carton. Then report the problem. Call USDA at 1-888-674-6854 if you think meat, poultry or eggs caused the illness. Call FDA at 1-866-300-4374 for all other foods.

Call your local health department if you think you got sick from food you ate in a restaurant or another food seller.

Anyone can get sick from eating spoiled food. Some people are more likely to get sick from food illnesses.

    • Pregnant women

    • Older Adults

    • People with certain health conditions like cancer, HIV/AIDS, diabetes and kidney disease

Some foods are more risky for these people. Talk to your doctor or another health provider about which foods are safe for you to eat.

Silver Moon Mining, A Spell Of Prosperity

Silver Moon Mining, A Spell Of Prosperity

“Silver Moon Mining” Spell Of Prosperity

Gather the things that you will need:

A Large cauldron, or a big bowl

Enough purified water to fill your cauldron half full

A silver colored coin, (an actual silver coin if you have one)

Hopefully, a large-sized moon that is shining light through a window (or better yet go outside to the place the moon is shining).

It is best to do this on a full moon, or nearly full moon. This is the best time to cast this spell…  If clouds are covering the moon it would be best to wait for another night you need the full light of the moon.

First: Set up your very basic altar. A small table near the window (where the moon is shining in) or outside will do just fine.  You can even use the ground outside and be closer to the earth.  I like the raised effect of the table but that is me. The full light of the moon outside is the best spell casting effect.

After setting up the altar, cast a basic magick circle.

Next, fill your cauldron half full of water and drop your silver coin into it.

You will then need to position the cauldron just right so that the light from the moon shines into the water.

Gently sweep your hands just above the surface, this symbolically gathers the Moon’s silver.

As you do this repeatedly say, “Lovely Lady of the Moon, bring to me your wealth very soon. Fill my hands with your silver and gold. All you give to me, my purse can hold.”

Repeat these steps three times. (Sweeping and speaking.)

When you are finished, pour the water upon the earth.  Poor it somewhere close outside your home.

This spell is extremely effective if you BELIEVE, and if you have nothing but good INTENTIONS.

It is very important that you let the spell go after it is cast.  Return to your regular life and be open for opportunities for prosperity. There will be plenty.
